According to the Daily Caller, the President of the North Carolina NCAAP Rev. William Barber II drew some bewildered looks yesterday:
“A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy,” Rev. William Barber II said of South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott, according to South Carolina’s The State. “[T]he extreme right wing down here (in South Carolina) finds a black guy to be senator and claims he’s the first black senator since Reconstruction and then he goes to Washington, D.C., and articulates the agenda of the Tea Party.”
I’m shocked, shocked I tell you.
To be quite frank, the NAACP is a racist organization. By arguing that Tim Scott is just acting as a puppet for the words of others, President Rev. Barber II is arguing that Senator Scott is inauthentically black. Its the same racist comments we have seen targeted at Tamera Mowry of late for daring to marry a white man. Its the same kind of racism which led to accusations Condoleezza Rice was an “Aunt Thomasina“, the same kind of racism which has attacked Hispanic conservatives as Coconuts (brown on the outside and white on the inside) or treated them as “Race Traitors”.This kind of infantilization and dehumanization is bullsh!t. It treats those subjected to it as incapable of rational thought and free will. Entire classes of people are being denied the very thing which makes us human – our capacity for rational thought and the free will to – because they happen to be capable of ticking a specific box on a demographic survey. And yet, by opposing this, I am somehow racist. To paraphrase Martin Luther King, Jr., why can’t we judge people by the content of their character and the quality of their thoughts instead of on the color of their skin?
Oh, right. That’s why.
